These guidelines have several distinctive features. For the first time, numerous international professional societies have agreed on a set of joint recommendations. The clinical definitions of NSTEMI and STEMI remain unchanged. However, new subgroups have been introduced, with CMR playing a key role in their classification.
Take a look at Figures 11 and 12 of the document. They show that CMR is central to classification into stages 1 to 4. This classification considers oedema, microvascular obstruction and intramyocardial haemorrhage-findings that can be clearly differentiated using CMR imaging.
